Liu Yangyang (Chinese: 刘扬扬) referred to as YANGYANG (Hangul: 양양) is Taiwanese-German, born on October 10, 2000. He was born in Taiwan but raised in Düsseldorf, Germany. He is the main rapper, sub-vocalist, lead dancer and maknae of WayV and part of the rappers in NCT U.

Pre Debut

Training and childhood

• YANGYANG was a trainee for 2 1/2 years.
  • He was accepted to SM Entertainment through the 2016 SM Global Audition, Taiwan.
  • When he was living in Germany, he saw an ad for the SM audition in 2016. He took a 12-hour flight just for the audition and passed out of 30,000 applicants.
  • YANGYANG joined in the middle of 2016 and debuted in 2019.
• He was announced as a NCT member in January 2019
• He moved to Germany when he was in the fourth grade.
• When he was a kid, he wanted to become a racer since he enjoyed go-karting.

Casting story

• YANGYANG is the son of Jim Liu, the CEO of ADLINK (computer manufacturing company based in Taipei, Taiwan) and was living and studying in Düsseldorf, Germany, and was on the basketball team in school when he injured his shoulder which results in a ripped tendon that needs surgery. When he was in a coma and high on anesthesia, he dreamt that he was performing on a stage, and coincidentally when he woke up two weeks later, he saw on the internet that there will be an audition in Taipei, so he flew back to Taiwan and participated in the SM Global Audition by rapping, singing a lot of songs and just swaying side-to-side and clapping to music because he really does not know how to dance. He was accepted and trained in SM.
